A Poetics of Hala Noumi. Suite 1

Chromatic Scale

La suite au prochain numéro —The name of Hala Noumi has already been mentioned but little in the way of  details regarding her life have been given.  That sad topic—life.

Jade—Life is trauma. Difficult, to say

The least.

Purple—And for the most part, to my dismay,

It is a vain attempt to find truth, but let it be.

And refrain from protracting misery

On oneself.

Black—Life is a dream to be imagined

Not worth living, not worth being bled.

Blue—If one has a red-hot passion, by all means

Go and flirt!  Let it play out in wildest scenes

But here you find me—and my muted joys

As life sustains, it also conspires and destroys.

Green—From the high perch of the Emir’s gallery

I can see flailing snow

Pink—I look out upon the grounds and see a sprawling fortune

There are mountains and clouds overcast in the distance

White—Suddenly, light bursts through the ragged skies

And plays with the wind upon the glazed grasses

Yellow—I am lifted up and my thoughts reel in a joyous frenzy

To think that all here is really only dust.
